Cat Trees and Condos
I looked into making my own cat trees after noticing the trees that I purchased for my cats were made of cardboard.
I think alot of people have been fooled by this as well. I purchased several high dollar cat trees and some off eBay.
All had cardboard used for support beams. You won't be able to see the cardboard because they cover it in sisal rope.
Take a look at a high dollar cat tree made by Amerimark just 6 months after purchase. It was used by one male Ragdoll cat.

You will notice on the close up photo, its scratched down to the cardboard. The sisal rope isn't top quality either.
My cats had no problem ripping right through it. I forgot to mention that it took me 45 minutes to assemble the tree.
I don't know about you, but I could of enjoyed that 45 minutes doing something else.
At the rate I was going through trees it was scary and I didn't have the funds to buy a new one whenever another one
bit the dust. I looked into solid wood trees and condos and was amazed by how high the prices are. From $300 to $800.
Of course you have the assurance with the investment that it will last, but I had a hard time paying that much for a tree.
So I went to work coming up with something affordable, long lasting and something the cats would like.

The tree shown above is 29" tall by 28" wide. It has two perches and two cedar scratching posts, and a solid
wood base covered with soft material. You may notice the cedar shavings on the bottom of the tree. My cats
prefer to scratch the cedar as opposed to the sisal rope. In fact when I put this new tree in the house, all my cats
wanted to get at it. They totally forgot about the other trees and condos I had for them. As a cat owner, you will
need to ensure that your cat has an area where he/she is allowed to scratch. All cats have an instinct to scratch.
They do it when they are excited, happy and wanting to play. Since you don't want your home or furniture damaged
by your pet, its a very good idea to provide them with a scratching post or tree. We train our cats and kittens to
always use the tree when they want to scratch an have had very good experience with it.
